Fun With Wood Veneer! - 4 Way Book Match: The fun really kicks in when you start book matching veneer! Make your own 4-Way Book Matched panel with Walnut Burl veneer, or ANY kind of veneer for that matter. This technique is much easier than you think and you don't need a lot of fancy to.   Cut the substrate at least 1/2″ larger than the panel’s final width and length so you can cut off squeezed-out glue and re-square the panel if the veneer slips during gluing. Department of Agriculture INTRODUCTION Veneer is the most valuable product recover- ed from a block. For rotary-cut veneer, envision a roll of paper towels being unwound from the holder.

To cut the veneer, the log section (flitch) is mounted in something akin to a giant lathe. The knife is advanced into the spinning log a few thousandths of an inch per revolution (the thickness of the veneer required) and off comes the veneer in a huge. -Put the veneer on a wood block and shave one of it's end with a utility knife -When it's done take a strong paper roll or a rod which has 1"/2,5cm diameter.

The rotary cutting method allows large amounts of veneer to be cut in a short time, but because the grain pattern is usually considered less desirable than flat cut veneer, and also varies considerably and is difficult to match, it is not often used in one-off furniture making, where the finished look of the piece is a primary consideration.
